Day 1 - Induction

Day 1 - Induction

Task 1

First part of our day, we was going through all the rules and regulations of the workplace. Ewan was briefly explaining all the different types of procedures such as ERR and safeguarding.

Task 2

Later on we had our first team building exercise of thinking of a variety of different forms of transportations from basic things such as walking to thinking of other methods such as traveling via data/ flying.

Task 3

Our next task was to create an island which we called paradise island to learn about our survivability skills and have a democracy within our team. being able to work with one another to reach an island that we would all be happy with and able to survive on. after creating our island perfectly we was faced with a challenge of accepting 8 new people (passports) into our island. after going through a list of 16 different types of people we learnt that we chose people who we thought would be useful and best fitted in our society whilst being useful. what we didn't know that the task was to show us that we've all been very judgement of the people we was taking in and the only way to not be judgemental was to just initially take the first 8 people.

Task 4

After completion of paradise island we was going through the definition and what the word radicalisation meant to us, for the other team they had extremists. we created flow diagrams and wrote small definitions of what both words meant to us and how similar they was.

Task 5

On this task we had to understand the concept of safeguarding and what that meant to us, which is about someone's welfare and wellbeing. we created a chart on safeguarding inside and outside of work. see pictures below.

Task 6

This is where it got interesting for me personally as we played a game on stereotyping people, their influences and our perception of them. it was more than scary to think about how many different perceptions on people you can actually have over the smallest of things such as weight, features and more. I found It quite intriguing. Ewan named something for example a homeless person and we all had to draw our perception of what they look like, and what we think off them.

Final Task

As our final exercise for the day we had to create our own alien and describe basic things about him such as name, where he's from, why he's on earth and that lead us to the question which is, what makes us human.

I personally believe that us being human is our ability to make mistakes and overcome them and progress through to the future whilst also being adaptive to what's thrown at us. each and every person may look different coming in all shapes and sizes whilst also having different experiences however internally we are all the same and that's what makes us human.
